Help build a house at UCOL Open Day

Visitors to UCOL Wairarapa’s Open Day can tell their friends: “I helped build a house today then helped pull it down.”

This rare experience is available to everyone who comes along to the Open Day this coming Wednesday. A kitset mini house will be amongst the fun activities. The five square metre house was donated to UCOL Wairarapa by timber company JNL.

It can be built and dismantled in less than a day and is used to teach Construction students. Programme Leader Brett Tickner says it’s a great resource that allows students to learn the principles of building and understand the roles played by other tradespeople in the process.

He says anyone who wants to pick up a drill, a measuring tape or a hammer at the Open Day can lend a hand with the building.
